Bianca Debaets
State Secretary of the Brussels-Capital Region
Bianca grew up in Middelburg, a small village of fewer than 600 souls. After her studies on translation and interpretation, she began to live in Brussels, where she has always thought things could be improved. She worked in the office of Jos Chabert, who taught her a lot about Brussels and its communities, as well as its structure, its policies, ordinances and technical sides. In 2006, she was elected as a municipal councilor in Ixelles. In 2009, she became a Member of the Brussels Parliament and in 2012 she was elected in local elections in Brussels City. In 2014, she wrote the book "Tien geboden voor Brussel ". Soon after, she was again elected and had the honor to become Secretary of State in the new Brussels government. Today, Bianca Debaets is in charge of Road Safety, Information Technology and the Digital Transition, Equal Opportunities, Wellbeing animal, and Development Cooperation. Within the Flemish Community Commission (VGC), she is responsible for Health, Welfare, Family and Equal Opportunities.
